About Sham: the developer of A Parent's Path to Practicing Medicine

Well, you guessed it...I'm probably a parent in medical school. My name is Hesham, but most people call me Sham. I am happily married with three amazing children. I am a fourth year student at Ross University School of Medicine. I had the unique experience of moving to Dominica with my wonderful family. Commonly confused for the Dominican Republic, Dominica is actually a developing nation in the Eastern Antilles between Martinique and Guadeloupe). Moving a family to another country has its own challenges, and so does having a baby during your clinical years (our baby girl was born in December of third year). My wife and I are a great team navigating this journey together through medicine and through parenting.

We had a fantastic experience, and I would not trade it for the world. Are you a nontraditional medical school applicant? Are you a parent wondering if its too late to follow your dream? Are you unsure if going to an offshore medical school is a good choice? I hope to prove that it is possible if you have determination, drive, and the capability to succeed. My blog posts are geared toward motivating every student to succeed by sharing my journey.

"Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth" -Baz Luhrmann, "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen" This blog is an account of various aspects of my medical school journey where I have painted over some of the ugly (no one wants to read about the hours and hours of studying it takes to succeed!), and hopefully the resources provided helps you use your time efficiently. I believe medicine has entered a collaborative era, and there is no reason the collaboration cannot begin in medical school Therefore, if I have a resource that I can share then I do. If you have questions, then I am always open to helping those wherever I can. Reach out to me anytime!
